I'll give the full recap piece by piece (and break it up a bit with some other posts), but suffice it to say, we are so excited to see family and friends, familiar places, and to relax in Cape Cod. The journey out and back will involve some long days, but it will also check some more states off my list, and will definitely help with some yearning that's been with me since we moved, growing stronger with each passing month.
When I was writing about our move out to Denver, I shared this quote:
“For West is where we all plan to go some day. It is where you go when the land gives out and the old-field pines encroach. It is where you go when you get the letter saying: Flee, all is discovered. It is where you go when you look down at the blade in your hand and the blood on it. It is where you go when you are told that you are a bubble on the tide of empire. It is where you go when you hear that thar's gold in them-thar hills. It is where you go to grow up with the country. It is where you go to spend your old age. Or it is just where you go.” ― Robert Penn Warren
Here is my addendum:
But East is where you go when you miss your family and friends so badly you can feel it vibrating in every fiber of your being. It is where you go when you need to get in the car to drive and drive and drive and see! It is where you go when you need roads that are so well traveled, after years of use, that they feel as comfortable to be on as your best worn jeans. It is where you go when you want to breathe the familiar air of your childhood. When you need to reconnect to your roots, after so much growing of branches. After a while, for a little, it is just where you go.
I cannot wait to get back East for a little while!
